We are all Owen Holland

The date for Owen Holland’s appeal against his suspension for seven terms, following participation in a peaceful protest against David Willetts, Minister for Universities and Science, has been set for Friday 22nd June.
In leaked documents from his trial it seems that the Court’s primary motive in setting the sentence was that it should “play a part in deterring others who might be tempted to act in a similar way”. This heavy-handed response to the peaceful protest suggests that there is a clear attempt to crack down on dissent and the right to protest within the University.
The campaign so far has seen over 8000 people sign a petition calling for Owen’s reinstatement, and hundreds of people taking to the streets.
Activists from the Reinstate Owen Holland campaign are calling a protest – assemble 9:30am, Great St Mary’s – at the appeal and ask for the support of students and trade unionists to join us.
As part of the build up to the protest next week, a photo campaign has been launched, sending a clear message to the University: Reinstate Owen Holland. Join us by taking a picture of your own!
Send it to reinstateowenholland@gmail.com to appear on the website.
