Andrew booth, a Barnsley college student in 1st year doing AS levels reports:
Last Saturday, lecturers from the UCU, staff, and students from acrossBarnsleyCollegedemonstrated. The demo started outside the college, and the march proceeded through the town, past the bus station and the town centre. Local residents and shoppers responded well. We even managed to hand out leaflets, with information of how the cuts are to affect the staff atBarnsleyCollege.
The demonstration through town was successful, as there was plenty of chanting, creating an epic Din across town, not one person who lives in Barnsley won’t know that the staff atBarnsleycollege are facing job losses. People will also know that we do not intend to stand for these cuts, and will contest any form of austerity.
The demonstration ended in the town precinct, with lecturers from colleges across the county, lecturers involved in the trade unions, and a student speaker. Several people who did not attend the march stopped to listen to what the lecturers had to say, and thus, it was a successful demonstration, a true show of our power!
