We need unity – support our lecturers

Today, an article in Times Higher Education Supplement seeks to show rifts between the students’ and trade union movement over forthcoming industrial action taken by UCU.
NUS President Liam Burns is quoted saying: “There is no need for further or escalated action if employers are willing to return to the table and find an acceptable solution.[…].Both sides must consider the impact on students and work towards a quick resolution.[…].Any action that threatens students’ ability to progress from year to year, or graduate at all, will immediately lose student support.[…]”
Over the course of last year the students’ movement has clearly identified its aims and objectives of being congruent to those of the students’ movement.
Mark Bergfeld from the Education Activist Network says: “In the face of these vicious attacks, students and their lecturers can only win together. When students walk-out and demonstrate, lecturers have to join them. When lecturers go on strike, students need to make sure that their colleges and universities are shut down.”
